Award for Bayfair a win for Accessibility!

22nd November 2016
Josh Laforteza and family with Steve Ellingford, Manager of Bayfair Shopping CentreCongratulations to Fab 50 member Steve Ellingford and the team from Bayfair Shopping Centre in Tauranga- at the end of last month they were awarded the prize for Nation Leading Accessibility Programme at the Shopping Centre Council of Australia (SCCA) Marketing Awards.

This award is absolutely well-deserved recognition of the outstanding work they are doing.

Bayfair Shopping Centre achieved a Platinum Be. Welcome Accessibility Rating in October of last year, becoming the industry benchmark in accessibility leadership.  Since that time true Accessibility Champion Steve Ellingford has continued to make improvements and embrace innovative ideas for the Centre, to meet the needs of all members of the Tauranga Community.
This award for Bayfair is also a real win for the region, as Bayfair Shopping Centre will donate the prize of $2500 to the Omanu Surf Life Saving Club for an initiative to provide beach wheelchairs to improve beach access for the community.
Earlier this year Steve and the team from Bayfair became aware of a local teenager Josh Laforteza, who was raising funds for a beach wheelchair.  As this team is passionate about improving access for the community they were keen to support Josh’s campaign, and motivated to do more.
By partnering with Omanu Surf Club they are doing just that.  Bayfair Marketing Manager Kylie McGregor says "We are so grateful that we have not only been recognised for our efforts through this award but that we can put the prize money towards continuing our region’s accessibility journey".
Bayfair, we are absolutely blown away by the commitment you show, and the creative ways you continue to raise the bar to achieve greater accessibility for your community!
