Co-op Coffee cart at Fairfax Media models accessible employment

12th January 2017

Co-op coffee cart at Fairfax MediaCongratulations to Fab 50 member and Fairfax Media managing director Simon Tong and team for the great work they are doing in modelling accessible employment!
At the end of last year Fairfax launched Co-op coffee cart on the balcony of their new office.  The idea behind setting up the cart was the desire to be able to offer quality coffee to their staff at affordable prices- and also to provide employment opportunities for diverse talent, and educate their staff about accessible employment at the same time. The team enlisted the help of Julz Russ, barista extraordinaire from Co-Ed café in Wellington, to help with the initial trial period and Annamarie Jamieson from Fairfax says that the cart has been a huge success. The staff have really embraced the opportunity to learn NZSL from Julz- they can now all sign for their coffee! Annamarie says the success of the cart, and how easy the whole process has been, has shown that this is a business model that could be adopted by anyone.
Annamarie invites anyone who wants to get this up and running in their own workplace to send her an email at - she'd love to offer any support to make it happen.
